The Esteros del Iberá are one of the richest wetlands in biological diversity on our planet.

Located in the province of Corrientes, in the northeast of the Argentine Republic, the ecosystem known as Esteros del Iberá owes its name to the homonymous lagoon located in the eastern central area of ​​this immense wetland system.
The word Iberá is formed by two words of the Guaraní language: ¨Î¨, water, which, before being “bright”, in its translation into Castilian expresses the site as “the water that shines or shines”, a name that supposedly They gave their original Guarani settlers when they observed the sparkling glow of their surface.

This peculiarity is visible in its water mirrors during the dawn or the anocher, when the stillness of a closed system, without river currents, breaks with the breeze produced by the change in temperature between the surrounding land surface and the water of the estuaries or lagoons, causing a superficial movement that reflects twilight sunlight with very particular effects.
There is, however, some objection about this origin of the denomination, because among the inhabitants the belief that the name is due to the heroic Princess Iberá, the daughter of the Guarani chief who submerged in the estuaries to protect the dignity of her culture, still persists. .
