EXCURSION TO THE SALINAS GRANDES AND THE WHITE DESERT BETWEEN SALTA AND JUJUY.

The Salinas Grandes de Jujuy have been considered one of the 7 Argentine wonders
With its 18,000 km2, the Salar de Atacama in Chile is in second place.
At that time the basin was completely covered with water from a volcano.

The current shape of the saline it is today was due to the gradual evaporation of water.

Salinas Grandes, an immense glittering desert located at 4,000 meters high.

This immense glittering desert located at 4,000 meters high has a crust whose average thickness is 30 centimeters.

In 2015 I visited this salt pan with a group of friends and technicians from the University of Buenos Aires who wanted to study its composition and other characteristics.
Below I show you in pictures everything that I was able to portray.

Geography.

At 12,000 hectares, it is the third largest open-air salt flat in South America and originated between five and ten million years ago.

The first place is occupied by the Uyuni salt flats in Bolivia, the largest non-solar salt extension in South America but also in the world.
