The Virgin of Rocio agglomerate a million people

Hello friends! Recently visit the place where the major pilgrimage of Spain takes place.

Today I want to show you the Hermitage of the Virgin of Rocio.

It is located in the village of Rocio that belongs to Almonte (Huelva). The last construction is from 1969. It is world-famous because every year a very famous pilgrimage is celebrated, attended by more than a million people. In the Sanctuary, the Virgin of Rocio is venerated, giving rise to the most important pilgrimage celebrated in Spain.

The village of Rocio does not have paved streets because the pilgrimage is done with a multitude of horses. The unpaved streets are reminiscent of the "Far West".

In the bars outside there are even bars to take the "tapa" without having to get off the horse.

The altarpiece is from 1990 and the extreme brilliance of the gold is striking. He imitates the baroque. The Virgin has a semicircular grid in front. There is the custom of the almonteños of "Saltar la Reja" at dawn and recover the Virgin to process it through the streets of the village of Rocio.

There are so many candles offered to the Virgin that the place for the candles was made in another building destined for such an event.

In 1993, Pope Wojtila gave mass in this basilica being captivated and said: "After seeing the whole world, the whole world is Rocío".

The locals say that it is priceless to be among the crowd, at night, with closed eyes and to perceive the joy of people who sing and dance, as well as to feel the aroma of candles and flowers.
